Game On! Code Names: Orbis and Durango

Sony is working on a new gaming console. Every few weeks there are few more rumors leaked about Sony’s PS4. According to one of the latest rumors, Sony will not be naming it the PS4, but code named it Orbis.  Not clear yet if the codename will become the final name. Thanks to Kotaku, a game-focused blog, some rumors are dropping to get gamers’ attention. This console is said to be released during the 2013 holiday season.

With this system your games can be downloaded or bought on Blu-Ray discs. PS3 games will not be compatible, and games will be locked to a PSN (PlayStation Network) account.  Obviously, this console will be Sony’s biggest product since PS3.

Some Specs/Features – AMD x64 CPU, which is just a high end PC card, the PS4’s GPU, will be capable of displaying Orbis games at a resolution of 4096×2160, which exceeds the specs of most current HDTVs. It can also play 3D games at 1080p, the PS3 could only do 720p.

While Sony is dropping the Orbis, Microsoft is developing the Durango or the Xbox720, as some may call it.  Rumors circulating around this system say that it may not have a disc drive. Though there is no disc drive, there have been questions about there possibly being an interchangeable solid state card storage. Don’t worry, no disc drive, no broken discs. Xbox gives you the option to download your games onto the hard drive already, what will not having a disc bother? Nothing, right? This way, you will always have your games. This also means a major enhancement to the cloud storage so you can take your memory and games wherever you go.

There has been no information released for any further features on the console or a release date. I will be on the hunt!
